Job Purpose

The Head of Nursery at House of Hope International School will lead the nursery section of the school, ensuring it operates in full compliance with the educational regulations of Ghana. This role involves managing staff, maintaining a safe and nurturing environment, developing age-appropriate curriculum, and ensuring excellence in early childhood education. The ideal candidate will demonstrate exceptional organisational ability, strong leadership, and a passion for child development.

Key Responsibilities

Leadership and Administration

  • Provide visionary leadership and strategic direction for the nursery department.
  • Ensure full compliance with the Ghana Education Service (GES) standards, Early Childhood Development guidelines, and other relevant regulations.
  • Maintain a structured, orderly, and safe environment conducive to early learning and care.
  • Supervise, mentor, and appraise nursery staff and early years teachers, promoting professional development.
  • Prepare reports on child development progress, staff performance, and operational matters as required by school leadership or external agencies.

Curriculum and Instruction

  • Design and oversee the implementation of a developmentally appropriate curriculum that meets the cognitive, emotional, physical, and social needs of children aged 6 months–4 years.
  • Monitor and evaluate teaching practices, ensuring quality education and alignment with GES standards.
  • Introduce innovative teaching methodologies that foster exploration, creativity, and foundational learning.
  • Facilitate the integration of early literacy, numeracy, and life skills in daily activities.

Child Welfare and Discipline

  • Establish a consistent and nurturing behaviour management approach aligned with child protection policies.
  • Ensure that all safeguarding procedures are followed, reporting concerns in line with school and national protocols.
  • Monitor children's health, hygiene, and emotional well-being daily.

Stakeholder Engagement

  • Build strong partnerships with parents/guardians through regular communication, workshops, and involvement in children’s learning journeys.
  • Collaborate with other departments, external bodies, and inspectors as needed.
  • Represent the nursery in school-wide activities and decision-making forums.

Qualifications and Experience

Essential:

  • Bachelor’s Degree or higher in Early Childhood Education, Education Management, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in early childhood teaching, with at least 2 years in a leadership or management role.
  • Knowledge of Ghanaian education regulations, including those pertaining to early childhood development.
  • Demonstrated leadership, planning, and administrative skills.

Desirable:

  • First Aid and Child Protection certification.
